The hands can display marked signs of aging which can make a youthful appearing face and body seem incongruous. Over time, soft tissue volume in the hands is gradually depleted. As a result, the aged hand consists of excessive veins, poor skin turgor, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Dr. Lesesne offers a full range of hand rejuvenation treatments that can help restore volume, restore lost volume in the hands, minimize the appearance of prominent veins and tendons, improve skin texture and tone, and remove hyperpigmentation or brown spots.
Hand Rejuvenation Treatment Options
Loss of Volume
The correction consists of treating the anatomic condition. When the hands lose volume, poor turgor is corrected by injecting fat or dermal fillers, such as Radiesse, thus restoring volume and promote collagen production. Prior to injection, Dr. Lesesne numbs the hands with a local anesthesia. The fat or filler is then injected into the backs of the hands. Some swelling and bruising can occur, but will diminish within 3-5 days.
Brown Spots and Discoloration
Brown spots, known as sun spots, age spots, are unsightly growths on the backs of the hands caused by sun exposure and genetics. Dr. Lesesne offers several hand rejuvenation treatment options to correct pigmentation problems on the hands. These services include: our state of the art laser technology, dermabrasion, and chemical peels. Dr. Lesesne can also prescribe bleaching creams to be applied on a daily basis.
Diminish the Appearance of Veins
As the hands lose volume, veins can become more prominent. The appearance of veins can be diminished with sclerotherapy, a technique in which a sclerosing solution is injected with a very fine needle directly into the blood vessel. The solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to swell and stick (the same technique can be used for spider veins in the leg). Some veins can be removed with very tiny incisions under local anesthesia. The procedure takes up to 1 hour.
