Brow Lifts

A brow lift, sometimes known as a forehead lift, corrects sagging eyebrows that can give you a sad or tired look. A brow lift can also improve the worried or angry expression caused by frown lines. It softens forehead creases, giving you a more relaxed and youthful appearance.

Thanks to new advances and techniques, brow lift surgery can be done with minimal incisions and fewer complications than the traditional approach.

Procedure

There are several surgical techniques that eliminate sagging brows. Some procedures require small incisions at the temples and in the scalp, while others require ear-to-ear incisions over the scalp to lift the forehead, and remove excess skin from the scalp. During your free consultation, Dr. Lesesne will explain treatment options and discuss which option is best for you. Brow lifts are performed in our Park Avenue surgical suite with IV sedation and the procedure takes approximately 2 hours.

Recovery

After your surgery, your forehead will be wrapped and bandaged. A thin tube is will be inserted to drain any excess fluid. Dr. Lesesne will give you detailed post-surgical instructions and you will receive medications to alleviate pain and reduce swelling. Some patients may experience bruising, which usually subsides after 7-10 days.

Ostectomy: Forehead Surgery

Ostectomy (forehead surgery) is the removal of excess bone on the front of the forehead that creates lumpy, bone like growths across the forehead or a heavy masculine orbital brow.

Bony lumps on the forehead usually indicate osteoid osteomas, which are benign bone growths that are usually congenital. A pre-operative X-Ray or CT scan will help confirm the diagnosis and extent, as growths in the area between the eyebrows may also indicate an excessive growth of the frontal sinus.

Ostectomy Procedure and Recovery

The procedure for surgical removal depends upon where the lump is located and the extent of the heavy orbital rim. For simple isolated osteoids, a small, short incision is made close to the hairline. For heavy brows in people with normal hairlines, the incision is made in the scalp. If the hair is sparse, and the amount limited, Dr. Lesesne can make a small incision under the eyelid. Then a small 4mm burr is used to sand the bone down safely.

Dr. Lesesne’s experience and training as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and deep knowledge of facial anatomy, allow him to correct contour problems while greatly reducing the risk of infections. Ostectomies are performed in our Park Avenue surgical suite. For small osteomas local anesthesia is sufficient. Larger procedures will require IV sedation from our anesthesiologist. These procedures take 30 to 90 minutes and normal activity can be resumed in 3-10 days, depending on the complexity of the surgery.
