Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Your eyes reveal more than any other feature of your face. If you suffer from heavy, puffy, wrinkled, or pigmented eyes, then eyelid surgery may be the choice for you. Eyelid surgery, also known as bleoharoplasty, offers a range of possibilities that offer the chance to rejuvenate and freshen your eyelids. When your eyelids are clean and not puffy, you appear younger and well rested. Eyelid surgery is very popular among men and women from their early twenties on.

Upper Eyelid Lift
Dr. Lesesne performs upper eyelid surgery to remove excess fat deposits that make your eyes appear puffy. Dr. Lesesne also removes excess, sagging skin that makes you appear tired or even impairs your vision.

Lower Eyelid Lift

Lower eyelid surgery can be used to remove excess skin or tighten skin to lessen the appearance of wrinkles, bags under the eyes and/or eye droopiness. Both upper and lower eye lid procedures will give you a more alert, younger appearance and can last for years with the proper care and attention.

Eyelid Analysis and Surgery

Dr. Lesesne’s analysis will focus on the anatomy of your eyelids, the eyebrow level, crow’s feet, skin pigment, and facial tone. In some cases a Visual Field Test is required before surgery. A detailed operative plan will be reviewed with you. Our goal is to make your eyelids look younger, rested, smoother, beautiful, and natural.

The Procedure

Upper eyelid surgery begins with Dr. Lesesne making a small incision in the natural crease of the eyelid.

The procedure involves tightening muscle tissue, repositioning fat, and removing excess skin. Upper eyelid surgery is done in our Park Avenue surgical suite under intravenous sedation or local anesthesia. The procedure typically lasts 1/2 hour to 1 hour.

For lower eyelid surgery, an incision is made just below the lower eyelash. Through the small incision excess skin is removed to lessen the appearance of wrinkles and puffiness or bags. If a transconjunctival incision is the best option for you, an incision will be made inside the lower eyelid to further minimize scarring and treat most of the same as conditions as a traditional lower eyelid surgery. Dr. Lesesne can also recommend laser and chemical peel treatments to remove dark shadows from under the eye.

In all cases, Dr. Lesesne’s skill and artistry allows for barely noticeable scarring since incisions are made in inconspicuous areas. They are also easily concealed during healing with minimal makeup.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

After your surgery you can apply cold compress, to your eyes to reduce bruising and swelling. Some patients require eye lubricants to keep the eyes from drying out. Your stitches will be in for about a week, and will be covered with small, flesh colored bandage. In most cases, dissoluble stitches are used, and do not need to be removed.

Dr. Lesesne and his team will give you specific instructions on follow-up visits, medications required for bruising and swelling, and how to properly care for your eyelids after surgery.
