Anesthesia

We only use senior, highly experienced, board-certified anesthesiologists with impeccable records. We believe that the smallest amount of anesthesia that provides a comfortable, non-anxiety and pain free experience, is the best. All of our patients, even after more extensive procedures, are able to walk and have control of their reflexes. We almost exclusively use intravenous sedation. Gas or general anesthesia is almost never required. Intravenous sedation, also known as MAC, is administered solely by our board-certified anesthesiologist. We are proud never to have had an intraoperative complication.

MAC Sedation
The 3 fundamental elements and purposes of a conscious sedation during a MAC are: a safe sedation, the control of the patient anxiety and the pain control. The patients undergoing conscious sedation are able to answer to orders appropriately and to protect airways. Last but not least, another purpose of any MAC is to get the patient appropriately satisfied, allowing them to be discharged as fast as possible.

Local Anesthesia
Many people find that the surgery can be done under regional anesthesia and oral medication. This allows for a rapid recovery and is less expensive. Pills are taken pre-operatively and Novocain is then injected. The medication takes affect almost immediately, and last up to 8 hours. Many of our mini procedures can be performed with local anesthesia.

Dr. James O’Neill is a Board- Certified Anesthesiologist and has safely administered anesthesia to over 40,000 patients. Previously, Dr. O’Neill served as Chief of Anesthesia at a large metropolitan New York Hospital.
