A neck lift, also known as platysmaplasty, is a cosmetic procedure carried out to remove excess skin and fat. The result of this procedure can create a well-defined jawline and a neck that looks tighter, sleeker, and more youthful. The neck lift is done on the lower part of the face. Dr. Lesesne’s necklift classification allows each patient a highly individualized result. A neck lift is often combined with a facelift to ensure the best results.
The Benefits of a Neck Lift
The signs of aging are often first visible in the neck region. Loss of skin elasticity can create a ‘turkey neck’ appearance. It can cause jowl lines and affect the overall contour of the neck. Excess fat in the lower part of the face and chin can also affect a person’s appearance. The best way to deal with these issues is to undergo a neck lift.
This procedure is a great option for people whose upper-face is still youthful-looking but whose lower face has started showing signs of aging. In such a case, a full facelift is not required, and a neck lift can provide the best results. It must be noted that the neck lift cannot stop the aging process.
I had a Neck and mid face lift 3 weeks ago by Dr. Lesesne .3 weeks in the healing process you cannot even tell I had any type of surgery . I lost a lot of weight in the last 2 years and my face dropped and had hanging skin under my neck. I am 47 and I looked 10 yers older . I met the doctor almost a year ago through a friend and when he told me what I needed I ran from it . I was very apprehensive because of a traumatic experience in my 20’s . I made a couple of appointments for surgery and cancelled within the year . Many phone calls to him and Diane and Jennifer . They took all my calls and didn’t pressure me to make the appointment . They let me come to them when I was ready . All I can say is wow 3 weeks now and I look 10 years younger . The doctor said the best result is 3 to 6 months later . I’m happy with the results now. I’m overwhelmed and have so much gratitude for him and his team . Feeling so blessed .

Neck Lift Candidates
People with issues like:
- Excess fat under in the lower face with loose skin
- Loose skin in the neck area
- Muscle banding in the neck
- Excess fat under the chin
The Neck Lift Procedure
Before the procedure patients would need to stop taking medications like blood thinners. Smokers need to stop smoking several weeks before the procedure.
The neck lift is an outpatient procedure. It can be done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Lesesne will make an incision that is hidden behind the ear. It may be a full incision or limited incision depending on the patient’s needs. Excess skin and fat are removed. Muscles are readjusted and the platysma muscle tightened. The skin will be re-positioned. The procedure can take 1.5 – 2.0 hours to complete. The incisions are sutured closed.
Neck Lift Recovery
There will be some swelling and bruising, which will subside over a couple of weeks. Medications may be prescribed by the doctor to be taken post-surgery. The sutures are usually removed within a week. The patient needs to have follow-up visits with the surgeon to evaluate the progress of the healing process.
Neck Lift Results
It takes 7 – 10 days to fully recover. The incision lines usually fade away after two months. Results of a neck lift can last for 20 to 25 years.
